Steve Ganster Reaction to China Business Survey by American Chamber
Thursday, January 20th, 2011Steven Ganster, Managing Director of Technomic Asia based in Shanghai, was interviewed by several news organizations on the American Chamber of Commerce - Shanghai annual survey results of US business performance and outlook in China for 2010. Technomic Asia conducted the survey and provided the analysis of the results. There is clear evidence that US companies are thriving in China and the outlook remains bullish for the next 5 years. Many companies experienced double digit growth in 2010 and profits have never been higher. More highlights of the survey are in the Technomic Asia news release
Ganster was disappointed that some news coverage has missed the fact that US companies are doing very well in China and that they view the China market as a global strategic priority. Like it or not, China is where the growth is and it is no longer an option for most businesses to participate. Many articles have dwelt on the usual political rhetoric but buried the important fact that China is an attractive and very important market to US companies. For these companies, the China market which supports corporate profitability, US exports and the jobs that they create. US firms operating in China recognize that there are many challenges and uncertianties in the market due to government regulations and a not always level playing field, but they are learning to adapt and effectively deal with these difficulties…and to thrive.
Here is a report from Marketplace in which Steve Ganster comments on the Am/Cham Shanghai survey and the visit of China President Hu Jintao to the United States.
